The day that I've been waiting for finally came. I'm so happy I'm no longer an office plebeian. My contract is already given to me and so as the salary I deserved. I took the opportunity to initiate a feeding program in the office (joke) to somehow give back a little something in exchange to their kindness during my impecunious days.

Aside from the fact that i could already buy the stuff that I've always wanted. It is only now that i could really say that helping the household. This is really a blessing especially of the fact that my mother is starting to plan to retire na from office by the end of the year. And with that I am thankful. Too bad right now i have no one to celebrate it. (It's ok Dennis, mas importante ang work)

But not everything is silver lining. I know to my self that starting today, especially this February, all eyes are on me and my team, watching our every move. And no better way to surpass the cloud but to work even harder as before.

It's been 3 months since I've been in this verbal set-up but starting today, as i sign the contact, everything will now turn black and white ergo being responsible for my actions which I'm not a fan of. It is only now, while I'm writing this blog that I've realized that being passionate and being responsible could be even but never equal. True, i tend to be passionate and do other tasks aside from my field to make things faster, however, it doesn't mean that I'm being responsible coz in a something is sacrificed. Hope i could learn how to say no sometimes.

I would love to end this blog by saying im so happy right now and that I'm so proud of our accomplishments as a team. The year started pretty though and glad we managed to create magic everyday! Di bale, we could have our fareshare after February 23.

Oscars break with decades-long tradition

Oscars telecast producers Bill Condon and Laurence Mark sat down with Susan Wloszczyna of USA Today for a must-read interview. In the course of their conversation, the neophyte Oscarcast producers promise that they're "tossing aside tradition in favor of surprise." Among the revelations recapped by Susan: "There also won't be the same old opening monologue, endless movie clips, an abundance of canned segments, silly prefab presenter banter and embarrassing interruptions of impassioned speeches." As Mark explains, "The only thing you must do is give all the awards out live onstage. You have to respect that. But there are many ways to do that, mind you."

As Susan notes, perhaps the most controversial of their proposed changes — "that the identity of the awards presenters would be kept secret" — has meant "more than a few Oscar watchers questioned the move. Why not publicize who will appear? 'Do you actually think anyone tunes in to see someone present an award?' Mark says. 'They suddenly hear so-and-so is presenting, and young males will watch? Well, no.'" As Susan writes, "One switch: Instead of lining up last year's winners and stars with upcoming movies to tout, Condon and Mark are reaching out to those names associated with a 2008 movie. And there will be a few blasts from Hollywood's past, too."

This move means breaking with the decades-long tradition of the previous year's acting champs presenting the opposite-sex category the following year. Indeed, Walter Matthau referenced this tradition back in 1971 when he pinch-hit for George C. Scott, who had famously refused his Oscar the previous year for "Patton." Watch Matthau present an uncharacteristically subdued Jane Fonda with her first Oscar for "Klute" at the academy's YouTube channel.

And if Condon and Mark follow through with this plan, we won't see a moment like this when Halle Berry, 2001 best actress winner for "Monster's Ball," got a bigger surprise than Adrien Brody, star of "The Pianist," when she announced him as the winner of the 2002 best actor award.

But let's give these two the benefit of much doubt right now, eh? They are proven master showmen who are hatching lots of intriguing ideas, whipping up gripping suspense, trying new things and digging up old, proven chestnuts from Oscar ceremonies past that deserve to be tried again. Personally, I have a hunch — and much confidence — that we're about to behold one of the greatest Oscarcasts ever. Oh, hurry up, Feb. 22! (23 here in Manila).

Another Christmas Love Affair?

Been so busy this couple of days attending parties of all sorts, getting drunk night after night followed up by an unpleasant hangover in the morning. Due to this, my body has already given up on alcohol. So right now, I ended up lying in my bed and writing this blog. Damn!

Due to the long vacation, celebrating Christmas with friends, relatives and acquaintances is much more fun than last year. I really had a great time spending cheers with people whom I don’t get to see the whole year and was only updated through friendster, multiply and facebook.

I’ve always celebrated Christmas being single with the company of family and friends. And this year was no difference. However, because I have all the time in the world, I finally had the chance to meet with this person whom I’ve been talking for some time now. We met last Dec 19, after the Creative and Marketing Services Christmas Party at Ludos, Timog. We had a great wholesome night. Then last Dec 24, we met again but sadly I can’t stay long because I still have to prepare our noche buena. On the night of the 26^th after watching “One Night Only” with a friend, by the way the movie sucks; he invited me to his apartment at Cubao. Our conversation lasted until the morning and as we were about to part ways he told me that he’s going to start packing for Iloilo to spend the New Year with his family. Well is not that bad, hey it’s the only time of the year that the guy spends time with his mom and dad. And right now, I'm glad that we still have contact. He told me that he’s going to be back on Jan 5 and probably we could hangout again. Well I’m looking forward to that day. Hope this is not one of those affairs that only happen during Christmas. I really hope not…

After 3 months, I realized that made the right choice afterall

After 3 months of being an OIC, which I'm actually doing ever since i became a part of our creative team, i finally given a chance to climb one step up the corporate ladder. In short, sa wakas promoted na ko! hahaha I'm the new, Creative Group Head of Velvet. I've never been so fullfilled in my entire stay here at CCMPG or so to speak here on ABS. Looking back as i assess my acomplishments, i realized that i have really gone a long way and so as the channel I'm in, the channel that i used to question its existence and had challenged my loyalty for the company in exchange for a network somewhere in Makati. I'm glad to say that after 3 months, i made the right choice afterall.

I'm aware that i have still so much to learn, in terms of my writing and orgazinational management. To learn how to handle stress and to tolerate ambiguity. Believe me, was an experience i would never forget.

As they say, thing can only get better. So do i and channel. Were still both new, at marami talaga room for improvements. Hope everything would be really fine in the future.

UP did not participate in THES-QS university rankings

In the 2008 university rankings recently released by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), only the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University (among Philippine universities) made it to the top 400. UP rose from 398 in 2007 to 276 this year; Ateneo rose from 401-500 to 254. De La Salle was ranked 415th and UST was ranked 470th.

According to UP Vice President for Public Affairs Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, UP President Emerlinda R. Roman did not receive any invitation to participate in the survey this year or any questionnaire to answer. What President Roman received was an email message from QS Asia Quacquarelli Symonds’ Regional Director (Asia Pacific), Mandy Mok, informing her that UP had “gone up in the rankings.”

Since UP had not been invited to participate in the survey and had not provided any data, UP officials do not know where and how the figures were obtained on which the ranking was based.

Hidalgo revealed that the message also contained this statement: “In view of the good news, would you like to consider signing up the following at a very attractive package price?” The “package price,” which includes a banner on topuniversities.com, a full page full color ad in Top Universities Guide 2009, and a booth at Top Universities Fair 2009, amounts to $48,930.

“UP can hardly be expected to spend more than 2 million pesos on publicity for itself involving a survey conducted by an organization that refuses to divulge where it obtains its data,” Hidalgo said.

In 2007, UP was invited to participate in the survey, but when THES-QS refused to explain where it obtained the data used to determine UP’s rank in the 2006 survey (where UP was ranked No. 299), university officials decided not to accept the invitation to participate in the 2007 survey. Moreover, the university was given barely a week to respond to the questionnaire.

UP wrote THES-QS in July 2007, informing them of this decision, and again in September 2007, requesting the organization to respect UP’s decision. In response, research assistant Saad Shabir wrote back saying that if it did not receive the information it would be “forced to use last year’s data or some form of average.”

These rankings are supposedly meant to serve as “the definitive guide to universities around the world which truly excel.” In evaluating institutions it computes half of the index based on its reputation as perceived by academics (peer review 40%) and global employers (recruiter review 10%). Since it does not specify who are surveyed or what questions are asked, the methodology is problematic.

An earlier statement, released by UP in August this year, and carried by several national dailies, said: “Even peers require standardized input data to review. But according to the International Ranking Systems for Universities and Institutions: A Critical Appraisal, published by BioMed Central, the Times simply asks 190,000 ‘experts’ to list what they regard as the top 30 universities in their field of expertise without providing input data on any performance indicators (http://www.biomedcentral.com/1741-7015/5/30). Moreover, the survey response rate among selected experts was found to be below 1%. In other words, on the basis of possible selection biases alone, the validity of the measurement is shaky.”

According to the statement, the other half of the index is based on such indicators as student-to faculty ratio, the number of foreign faculty and students in the university, and the number of academic works by university researchers that have been cited internationally. “Data for these indicators, however, typically depend on the information that participating institutions submit. An institution’s index may be easily distorted if it fails to submit data for the pertinent indicators, or if it chooses not to participate.”

As Dr. Leticia Peñano-Ho said in an article carried by the UP Forum last year: “The crux of the matter is to identify the indices that can approximate the different landscapes of universities. There might be a need to relate these indicators to the unversities’ mission statements. UP’s constituents can identify their own indicators and decide on their desirability, relevance and reliability. These criteria should, as an added value, provide international comparisons."

Last Thursday, my friend, who is going to be my boss in the company that i applied for texted me and said that my papers are now ready and i'm all set to report 2 weeks from now. So i already drafted my resignation letter (in my previous post) and rendered it to my creative director the day after (Friday), thinking that it was strategic and their would be less complications. But I was wrong... As I expected, he called me up in his room and discussed the matter with me. You guys don't know how nervous i am at that time. Kung bakit pa kasi kailangan ipaliwanag ang lahat lahat. Hindi ba pwedeng sabihing, 'eh ganun e', wala ng salisalita, wala ng tanung tanung.

Before, i said to my self that i wouldn't make salary as an issue. Dati kasi ok lang kasi sakin yun, basta kung san ako masaya, dun ako kahit mababa ang sweldo dun ako. Sabi ko noon, magreresign lang ako kapag may nakaaway ako sa office na hindi ko na matake o kaya hindi nako masaya sa ginagawa ko. Pero as time goes by, naisip ko, salary also does matter. Hello I'm already 24 and I'm not getting younger. Dyan na pumapasok yung mga household responsibilities tulad ng pagbabayad ng kuryente etal. Yung sweldo ko hanggang pangfreshgrad lang noh. And in the 2 years that I've been to this company, di naman uso ang yearly increase, moreover the benefits. So i said to my self its about time to be in better pastures.

But no, bigla nalang ako naguluhan at napaisip when my created director started to do the talking. He discussed how impressed he was with our team. He told me his plans that I'm a possible candidate for a noteworthy position. I already told him my feelings about it na impossible yun dahil di naman uso sa company ang promotion and all. he only uttered 'Why don't you let me do my job.' Hay i know that he doesn't want to give me high hope pero napaisip nga ako, posible nga naman kung iisipin. Pero the problem is, di pa sigurado yun. May risk din. In my opinion, at the most, a very influencive recommendation letter is all he could give.

Right now I'm so confused. Should i take the risk or dun ako sa sigurado? Ang hirap hirap lang talaga. What would i do?

Sa totoo lang, nahihiya ako sa friend ko na naglakad ng papers ko and all. She was able to grant my expected salary or nagiging masyado lang akong mukhang pera ngayon at pumapasok sa utak kong magtake ng risk? On the other hand, i must admit, i love my work right now if only for the poor compensation.

Ngayon i really cant decide, what would i do ?

Yesterday, i got a text from my friend telling me that she's already processing my papers. Though she didn't directly say that I'm already hired, it could only one thing, i passed the 2 interviews that i've been to and anytime soon i'll be going to start working in Makati. Yahoo! So as soon as they would tell me na ayos na ang papers ko, i'll immediately relinquish my post and just give a two weeks notice. Dahil makati yun, siguro kailangan ko nang sanayin ang sarili ko na magcommute via jeep and mrt. Kailangan ko na rin gumising ng maaga so that i would not be late and be caught off by the rush.

Well, for sure im goin to miss my overworked and underpaid officemates, i lasted for more than 2 years here at abs because of them. Well maliit na terrain lang naman ng television kaya for sure magkikita pa tayo one of these days.

Last night, i was with Gail, Bobby, Vincci and Omar. We decided to have a 'too fast' drinking session at Studio Bar, in front of ABS-CBN, along Mother Ignacia, to unwind after a long and very toxic day at work. It was my first time there, since the bar just opened a month or so. Well what can i say, the ambiance is good, they have the yummiest beef tapa and the crowd is really cool.

Speaking of the crowd, as soon as we arrived, he immediately caught my attention. Lets just hide him by the initials of JB. I'm sure you guys know him, dahil artista sya.

E hindi talaga nila ako mapakanta, so they asked nalang us why we're there or was there any celebration. Nagbarbero si Vincci at sinabing despedida ko daw. Buti na lang at witty ako at sinabi kong sa 'kabilang kumpanya' ako lilipat. (Well that's actually my plan naman kaya sana matanggap ako.)

The GF of one of the bar's owner decided to take a picture of our table, maybe for her documentation. At dahil kodakan na, we asked her to take a picture of us this time using Vincci's phone. E di nya masyado alam ang settings nyon kaya dun na pumasok sa eksena si JB. (ang tagal ng kwento)

Nagthank you kami, then sabi nya sana raw marinig nya daw akong kumanta next time. Hahaha kinilig lang ako after he called my name! Tapos ayun na, nangantyaw na yung mga officemates ko and insisted that we have a picture together. Nagblush na lang ako sa hiya at sa dami ng beer na nainom ko at that time. Sabi ko wag na, pero naloka nalang ako nung lumapit sya at inakbayan ako. Wala na akong magawa kundi magpost nalang kasama sya.

He asked me kung san ako lilipat at bakit, sabi ko sa kabilang kumpanya sabay biro na, e diba lumipat ka rin, he just laughed.

After some more bottles, as we were about to leave the bar, he approached my again. Nakipagkamay and said his thanks and invited us again on our free time so that he could hear me sing. Hope i could see him again one of these days dun, by the time na magkita kami dun, baka mapakanta na niya ako. hehehe

As everybody was still having a New Year hangover, I was just surprised to find out from my HR that my contract wasn’t renewed by boss. Wala na pala akong babalikan sa itaas ngayong 2008, how’s that for a new year! Well, being in the program monitoring for 11 months, I can say that I already had an idea that this would happen, maybe still because of the issue that sparked before, about 2 months ago.

I remembered what he did on my birthday celebration/ weekly meeting in the office when he discussed what happened in front of the whole department with due respect to that big birthday cake of mine. Since I knew that I was wrong, I quickly apologized and kept in mind that because of that, things would be the same anymore. But in all fairness, in reality, it was really meant to happen it’s just that I’m the person who got involved on it. All along I thought that the issue has been settled and we would just charge it to experience, neither do I know that he still have more in mind.

Up to now, I still don’t know his grounds for he would not talk to me. All I can do was to think assumptions. That’s so immature, unprofessional and undiplomatic. I understand the fact that no one’s indispensable in the company more so that maybe we have already been attached to each other and it’s hard for him to let go and involved himself in the middle of such emotional event, nevertheless it was his job as a boss or else di ko malalaman ang mga kailangan kong baguhin at iimprove. I know to myself that I deserve an explanation. Ayoko naman na ako ang lalapit sa kanya dahil I have nothing to say in he first place, furthermore it would just make me look helpless gayung hindi naman.

Kung trabaho at trabaho lang, I’m already burned-out and if not for the people and the payroll matagal na akong nagresign. It was a dead end job full of intellectual masturbation, desperately trying to analyze the subjective TV viewing with the help from the barely credible TV ratings. Walang growth and it was just easy money. Sadyang naunahan nya lang ako this time.

Well I guess I have to start my new year with a completely new life, job and attitude. Everything seemed to fall in to place dahil swak na swak ang pagpasok ko sa Velvet as a copywriter/ producer. Though the job was more demanding I can say that I’ve been given a chance here to grow and do what I really love most. Pero syempre, di pa rin maiiwasan na mamiss at malungkot dahil sa mga officemates ko sa 15^th floor. Medyo awkward na rin sakin and buong vicinity. Kahit sabihin pa saking its ok to drop by there because more than officemates, we were also friends, iba pa rin when you think na your’re no longer part of it anymore. (gosh naiiyak lang ako)

To my officemates, just remember that if you need something, im just a text away. Di naman ganun kalayo ang 15^th floor as 10^th floor kung nasan ako ngayon dahil may elevator naman. Hope nothing would change, yosi pa rin sa 13^th, inuman sa Janero at videoke Cosala’s. Hehehe I’m really gonna miss you guys (lalong lalo na si....guess who) hahaha!

Celebrate a hundred years of our State University! Featuring a kickoff parade and an amazing fireworks display! Let's go for some maroon school spirit!

A HUGE MOTORCADE participated in by the different units of the University of the Philippines System from across the country will highlight the UP System Centennial Launching on January 8, 2008 that will kick off celebrations for the State University’s 100 years of existence.

The UP Alumni Association, the organization spearheading the kick-off activities, announced that the motorcade will start from the University of the Philippines campus in Padre Faura, Manila -- where the first UP campus was first established in 1908 – and will proceed to UP Diliman in Quezon City beginning at 12 noon.

UPAA President Ponciano E. Rivera Jr. said the Manila convoy will then be joined by other motorcades originating from UP Baguio, UP Pampanga and UP Los Baños and will converge with the UP Diliman contingent along Quezon Avenue at an appointed time. The grand motorcade is expected to enter the
Diliman campus at about 4 pm, after which a series of grand launching ceremonies will unfold.

Lion dancers, ati-atihan performers and a host of UP dance groups will welcome the motorcade in front of the Oblation statue where a big crowd of alumni, students, faculty, staff, supporters and well-wishers are already gathered. Sky jumpers bearing the emblem of the various UP campuses will land in the open area near the College of Mass Communication.

Ten tambuli players will then blow their horns from atop the Administration
building, amid the ceremonial firing of 100 rockets (“kwitis”) to announce the
start of the program.

100 torches will be relayed around UP Diliman’s Academic Oval, with the first flame being lit by a 100-year old alumnus. The last flame will be lighted by UP President Emerlinda Roman, who will then proceed to light the UP Flame, as all the flaming 99 torches are extinguished. Simultaneous with the lighting of the cauldron, the “UP @ 100” lights display at the Quezon Hall go on and the grandly lit trees around the academic oval come to life, making the UP campus blaze with lights on its centennial.

One hundred rifle shots will be fired into the air by the UP Rifle Team, ushering in the announcement by President Roman that the UP Centennial Year is
open.

A free concert featuring internationally acclaimed UP alumni,
among them, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Ryan Cayabyab, the UP Symphonic Orchestra, Nanette Inventor, and UP Symphonic Band follows at the UP Amphitheater. The evening will be capped by a grand fireworks display.

As of Dec. 24 reports have been found that Manila had outshined Bangkok for its bid for the Spice Girls Concert Tour here in Southeast Asia. I hope it really is confirmed. Most probably the venue for this would be The Fort Open Field. The date still yet to be announced. I wonder how much the tickets would cost? Just remembered what happend in UK where all their 21 shows have been sold out in a matter of 30 seconds. Gosh! I shouldn't be posting this, baka maunahan ako hehehe. In Memoriam: Monico Atienza

Grabe after Sir Rene, just found out that Sir Nic Atienza had also passed away this afternoon. Gosh, anu bang meron sa araw na 'to? Mukhang napakamalas naman ata. Ang bigat bigat lang sa dibdib. Hindi ako masyadong makapagsulat. Right now im still waiting for the details kung san ang burol etc. I'll post it later, makibalita na lang po kayo.

I kept on receiving messages from my colleagues from UP Ugat saying that my one of my professors, Rene O. Villanueva passed away earlier this afternoon, around 2: 07pm. Nagulat ako at nalungkot. Just this Monday, I heard that he fell in to coma, and now another bad news came along. I never thought na ganoon na pala kalala yung sakit nya. Dati kasi, natatawa na lang kami. Akalain mo ba naman, sinong teacher ang papasok ng 7 ng umaga sa klaseng duguan dahil nadaplisan ng bala ng baril sabay hithit ng isang kahang Phillip Morris. Sinong teacher rin ang muntik ng mabagsakan ng buko sa Sarah’s. Wala ng iba, siya lang yun, samahan mo pa ng TB at Diabetes san ka pa. Ayaw nya kasing kinaaawaan siya. Napaka-casual lang na para bang chismis na sinasabi nya ang mga latest kamalasan sa kanyang buhay sa klase. Sinasabi na lang niya na “Matagal mamatay ang masamang damo.”

It’s been a long time since I visited UP. When I last saw Sir Rene, malakas pa naman siya. He used to be my thesis adviser in playwriting. Bilib na bilib ako sa kanya, kaya kahit natatakot ako, naglakas loob akong kunin siya. And guest what, ang unang bati nya sa’kin nung muli kaming nagkita, “Anu tapos mo na ba thesis mo?” Syempre hindi ako magasagot, dahil hanggang ngayon nga di ko pa siya tapos. Pero yung nakita ko siya nyon, napansin kong ang laki ng binait nya. Palagi na siyang nakangiti, at hindi na masyadong nagtataray. Sa wakas nakita ko na ang tunay na Sir Rene.

Kahit hindi ko natapos ang thesis ko sa kanya, hindi ko maitatangging marami akong natutunan, sa pagsusulat at sa karanasan. Hindi hindi ko siya malilimutan. Marami siyang mga taong pinatawa at binigyan ng inspirasyon sa kanyang mga panulat. Naway bonggang bongga sana siya kung nasan man siya ngayon.

Yahoo! Once again, ABS-CBN had found a very wise and effective synergistic opportunity to reach Kapamilya viewers in the Philippines and around the world through Multiply. It was a way of the network to promote their shows to the A-B market particularly the teens. Now, account members can be updated and have access to the latest shows and projects of the network.

As most of you guys are happy that Multiply is now a Kapamilya terrain, we certainly can’t avoid detractors. Many thought that the partnership would only make the site ‘Jologs.’ Well, in the first place, I don’t think the staffs of the site would let that happen, if yes, then on what grounds? ABS-CBN would just promote their shows through upstreams, downstreams and logos just like other advertisers such as Globe and Smart. The format would not change. Moreover, I think that the term ‘Jologs’ was misused for such claim. Even though we often find some shows really trashy and pathetic for our sensibilities, if only we would analyze it, we could see the values being instilled and viewing needs given by the network to the viewers. If we couldn’t appreciate the shows, let’s just say that we are not the core market of the network for ABS-CBN targets females 18-35 Class CDE; obviously, we do not belong to that bracket. To make the discussion shorter, the point is that we cannot coin ABS-CBN or local mass media as ‘Jologs’ in the sense that the network was only giving the wants of the majority. Saying ABS-CBN is ‘Jologs’ also means that its viewers is like so. On the issue of educating and improving viewing sensibilities of the core market to our level and make them appreciate watching Gossip Girl, Desperate Housewives and Heroes, dream on! Ang idealistic lang. (I’ll just write a different blog for that)

On the other hand, a few are saying that it was a desperate strategy of the network against GMA 7. Well, instead of saying desperation, why not call it expansion and innovation?

I Kissed Gimik Goodbye (for now)

It’s already Wednesday and it was only now that I’ve finished doing all my reports regarding the 14 primetime shows that aired during the weekends. Ang hirap lang, it was a very exhausting experience. Synopsis, criticisms, recommendations and program activations, di ko na alam, antok nako, naghalo na ang balat sa tinalupan. If you think working on a weekend was easy, well I tell you its not. I rather come to the office during the weekdays and have my weekends for myself rather than staying in the office on a lonely weekend keeping my eyes in front of 2 television sets for 14 drooling hours as my friends and officemates are partying and having the time of their lives. Well actually, weekends rin naman ang shift ko before, yun nga lang Daytime ako. And I must say it made a big difference. Its easier and less complicated plus I could still devote my Saturday nights on errands. Having in mind the early deadline and the importance of the block to the network, I’m beginning to falter. I’m not fond of this kind of pressure and challenge. Up to now, with my new shift assigned, I don’t know if I’m going to be happy or annoyed. Happy dahil pinagkatiwalaan ako ng boss ko na hawakan ‘tong crucial timeslot na ‘to o maasar dahil masyado siyang mahirap.

So ano bang bottom line ng blog na ‘to?

Hindi ako makagimik punyeta!

Well work is work, wala na akong magagawa dun. All I need to do was to think of a plan on how I could enjoy my shift. So I guess no parties muna for 3 months until magkaroon ng reshuffling.

It’s over.

Mike and I finally broke-up yesterday through text. I was really pissed. If not for that 3-page text message that I’ve sent to him by at least 5 times, we wouldn’t bother to tell me. Nakakaasar na kasi e. It’s been 3 days since he last texted me. I simply don’t know what happened to him, I don’t know what’s the problem or if were still together. So I decided to bombard his inbox and demanded some respect and courtesy to at least tell me the situation of our relationship.

He replied saying that he was so busy and that he couldn’t balance his work and our relationship. He said that he does not deserve me and it will just be our source of conflict in the future if we still continue with it. That’s bullshit!

First of all, even before, I already understood and accepted the nature of his work that its beyond time and always on-call. For me, all I asked is a single text everyday to tell me kung kamusta na siya or kung tuloy ba ang lakad. Maiintindihan ko na kagad yun no follow-up questions, no interrogations etc. A fucking single text is all I ask from him. Gaano ba kahirap yun? E mas madalas pa nga siyang pumunta sa CR at kumain kaysa dun. That text would not take 30 seconds of his time, hindi pa niya magawa yun. Second, if he’s so busy, bakit nakakainom pa siya with friends. Lets face it he just have problems in prioritizing things. I could never take his reason na marami siyang ginagawa sa trabaho dahil ang trabaho hindi naman nababawasan yan. It’s all about time management punyeta!

Eto pa ang kinasasama ng loob ko, he vicariously courted me for almost a month, fetching me from work, treating me out, constantly calls at home etc. And now, I can’t help it but to question kung bakit na lang siyang naging cold noong naging kami na. At first I admit na hindi ko siya mahal. As I said in my previous entries, sasagutin ko lang siya kung naclear ko na ang mga hesitations ko sa kanya at kung kahit papaano ay nakita ko na ang mga hinahanap ko. Pero ewan ko ba kung bakit ngayong sinagot ko na siya at mahal ko na yung tao siya bigla naman siyang lumayo sakin? May mga tao ba talaga ganun?

Sana mas kinilala ko na lang siya. Maybe 1 month isn’t long enough to get to know a person. Pero come to think of it, malay ko, kahit 1 taon pa niya akong ligawan, ganito pa rin ang gawin niya, mas masakit lang sa huli.

As of now, I’m really messed up. I can’t concentrate on my work, can’t eat as well as sleep. Nakakatawa nga e, bigla akong nilalagnat ngayon.

I’ve waited for this relationship for more than a year only to find out in the end that this affair would only last 2 weeks. Nakakatawa talaga! I did my best to make this relationship perfect for the both of us or at least to work out pero he just gave up on me so easily. He didn’t even tried. I tried to understand his situation and I have wholly accepted him as the person whom I’m going to spend my life for a long time; sa birthday ko, sa pasko, bagong taong, sa birthday niya hanggang sa anniversary namin. Nanghihinayang lang ako sa mga plans namin, that were going to live together on one roof, going to Baguio this September etc. Oh well, promises are made to be broken.

Our relationship only lasted for 2 weeks. The shortest I’ve ever been to. For some, you wouldn’t even consider this as a relationship kasi nga sobrang ikli. Nakakatawa talaga kung iisipin. Maski ako kung papayuhan ko ang sarili ko mabilis kong masasabi na “he’s not worth it!” Pero bakit ganun, ang sakit pa rin? Siguro masyado ko lang minahal talaga yung tao.

So dahil nga 2 linggo lang kami tumagal, I hope I could easily recover by half of the period we stayed as a couple. So here’s my moving on schedule hahaha!

Monday: Denial

Our break-up didn’t sank-in to me yesterday. It was just a normal day as if nothing happened. Gone out with my friends, had dinner and drank ice-cold beer from Sarah’s etc. I just cried not because of our break-up but my friends are forcing me to cry. The day ended up me drunk.

Tuesday: Anger

I just cried the whole day!

Wednesday: Bargaining

Tomorrow, I’m going to text Mike if we could meet and talk about it.
Mahal ko talaga yung tao e. I’m hoping for a one last chance. Kahit babaan ko pa pride ko at ireconcile ang integrity ko gagawin ko. Bahala na.

Thursday: Acceptance

As the stage says, I will accept na wala na kami.
I will cry for the last time.

Friday: Forgiveness

I will text Mike my final message to him.
I will tell him na hindi ako galit na naiintindihan ko siya. That there would be no bad memories that reminded me of him.
I will say “I love you” for the last time

Saturday: Moving On

I will delete all of his texts and contact numbers on my phone.
I will have a celebration with friends,

Falling in Love And Now Falling Apart.

Lately, Mike and I were having problems on time management and prioritization. It’s been already a week since we saw each other, 3 days since we talked on the phone and 2 days since he last texted me. No, I'm angry it's just that I’m beginning to worry on what might happen to him. He's not answering my messages and calls, I hate it! I can't concentrate on my work and I'm just so fucking paranoid every time my cellphone rings hoping that it was him.

The same scenario already happened last week. Last Tuesday, we were supposed to go out on a date. At 3 P.M., I asked him if he could make it, he confirmed. Then, I texted him again at 6 P.M. if ever there would be some change of plans, he didn't replied. I began calling him but his phone was off. This series of inquiry continued until 3 A.M. In the morning, as i was packing my stuff and getting ready for Tagaytay, I received a text from him saying that he was really busy last night. He apologized that couldn’t answer my calls for he was in a meeting. I answered that it was ok and I'm just worried. Then, he confessed that he was having a hard time balancing our relationship and his work. I began to cry. I asked him if he was giving up…if we were breaking-up, he simply told me that he wanted me to stay.

Today, I’m experiencing the same dilemma. Ang hirap lang! All I need is just one text from him, kontento nako dun. I don’t care kung tuloy kami later o hindi, I just want to know if he’s ok.

Right now, questions suddenly bopped in to my mind. Am I a high maintenance boyfriend? Do I expect and demand too much from him? Karma ko na siguro ‘to.

Ngayon, sigurado nako mahal ko na siya dahil hindi ako mababaliw ng ganito kung hindi ko siya mahal. Mukhang nagbago yata ang ihip ng hangin. I wanted him to stay.

UP Oblation in 100 Peso Bills

Banknote collectors have something to look forward to in 2008. In commemoration of the centennial of the University of the Philippines (UP), the "Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has approved the overprinting of the image of the Oblation on new hundred peso bills to be circulated soon".

The image above is only a speculation. Overprints are usually done on the white space on the right side of the banknote. The overprinted bills will most likely be issued in 2008, the year of UP's centennial.

The Oblation is the iconic symbol of the University of the Philippines, represented by a man with arms wide-stretched and face facing up, symbolizing selfless offering of one's self to his country.

Pop Slave Goes Indie

Yes, I was able to watch 4 out of 9 full-length features at the recently held Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival at the UP Film Center last week. Not bad for a person like me who works for a mainstream network and does not fully understand the aesthetics of independent film making. As long as i wanted to watch all 9 features, i have work and wasn't able to sneak out of office to catch the 5pm screenings.

The first film i saw was Tukso, a film directed by Dennis Magasigan which starred by friend Diana Malahay who was the lead actress. I went there alone (too bad, i dont have a date). The film just remembered me of Gus Van Sant's "Elephant" and Akira Kurisawa's "Roshomon". It was also nostalgic impact to me for the treatment and concept was like my long old forgotten and unfinished thesis. Its one of those locally produced detective movies and it must say it was my favorite.

The second film was Kadin by Adolf Alix Jr. I watched the movie with my orgmates Liezel and Ivy (punyeta ang ingay lang nila kasama!). The movie was about the journey of Peping who was in his quest to find his missing goat. Though the cinematography was outstanding, I'm must say that the story was very thin. It would have been better if the movie was pegged as a short film rather than a full length feature.

Jay Abello's Ligaw Liham was next. Seen the movie with officemate Toni last thursday. No comment! We just went to Sarah's out of desperation.

Finally, I was with Alina and Rain on watching Jim Libiran's Tribu last friday. It was really a beautiful film and without a doubt it was the Best Picture for everybody in the theater.

LIKHAAN: The UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP ICW) now accepts application for the 46th UP National Writers Workshop to be held in Baguio City for one week the summer of 2007.

UP ICW director, Professor Vim Nadera, also announced that 12 fellowships for advanced writers are available. Qualifications are: must be writers in English or Filipino; must have attended at least one creative writing workshop (national/regional, including the UP National Writers Workshops), or earned a degree in Creative Writing/Malikhaing Pagsulat, or won at least one national/international literary award; must have published at least three poems or two short stories or two pieces of creative nonfiction (e.g., essays, memoirs, profiles) in reputable collections or anthologies, journals, magazines (including campus publications), or refereed Internet web magazines. Some of these qualifications may be waived in exceptionally meritorious cases, with the unanimous concurrence of the UP ICW Associates, Advisers and Resident Fellows. Writers who have been Fellows at any of the UP National Writers’ Workshops are eligible.

Applicants must submit the following: (1) one original, unpublished story, poem, or creative non-fiction in digital file plus four hard copies (12 points, double-spaced, 8.5" x 11"), not previously submitted to any other workshops; (2) a 2-paragraph description of a work-in-progress in any of the above genres, in English or Filipino (also 12 points, double-spaced, 8.5" x 11"); photocopies of the applicant’s published works, including publication details; and (4) application form available from the UP ICW office in UP Diliman.

The Center for Creative Writing and Studies of the University of Santo Tomas is accepting manuscripts for the 8th National Writers Workshop to be held from April 22 to 28 in Baguio City.

The workshop iis open to writers who have not been awarded fellowships to any national writers workshop.

An applicant should submit three printed copies (on short bond paper) and a CD or diskette containing soft copies in MS Word format of his/her manuscript (at least five poems or two short stories or five fiction or non-fiction pieces in English or Filipino). He/she should submit a resume, a 2 x 2 ID photo, and a certification duly signed by an institution/company senior that the manuscript is authentic.

Fifteen fellowships are available, a percentage of which will be given to the Dominican Network of Schools, Colleges and Universities. Deadline is on Feb. 23.

My apologies this is soooo late. But I forgot to update this blog and so I just want to greet everyone a belated Merry Christmas! Hope everybody had a great time with family and friends!

Lately I was busy circling the metro availing different x-mas sales and bargains at malls and tiangges so that I could at least have something to give to friends and families.

This season my cooking skill was also tested as I cooked our Christmas Eve dinner, sarap! (Iyak na lang sa pasukan dahil ang taba ko na naman!)

It was also the season where I've met new friends and hangout with old time barkadas. Since I don't have to worry dahil wala namang pasok kinabukasan, I took the opportunity to get drunk (sige lang inom lang ng inom ika nga ni Gretchen sa kanyang bagong pelikula "Matakot ako sa Karma"), bakit ba ngayon ngayon lang naman ito kaya lubus lubusin na.

December 23 I was at Megamall falling in line for almost an hour just to have my own piece of Krispy Kremes that has opened its 2nd branch there. Well it just taste like Go Nuts Donuts, I must say too expensive and overrated. I still prefer Chello's in Katipunan. Well anyhow the experience was ok naman coz I’m with Ariel at that time (hehehe).

Last Dec 26, I was in Taytay celebrating the Christmas with my old officemates/ friends Kats and Rain. Kats' putanesca was the best. Rain gave me a cigarette case as a present, thanks (hope hindi makita ni Mudra).

Yesterday naman kinita ko si Luchie sa Starbucks Katips. Its been years na since we last saw each other at nagulat na lang ako at andoon rin ang iba pa naming kabarkada noong high school. Namiss ko lang talaga yung ganun. We headed off at Papajeks sa Riverbanks at uminom nalang for life.

I had so much fun. Sana ganun din kayo. Well I’ll just look forward for the New Year.

2 weeks ago i was with my CDG officemates at Greenbelt to see the premiere night of Ed Lejano's digital film Serok, as part of the second Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival. The movie started late as expected so i took the oppurtunity to chat and minggle with my ex-officemates at CPI and some collegues from UP. Of all places i never expected to see Yonina, whom i worked with before i entered ABS as an event organizer, to be there.

The film has a very impressing premise. That Life is simply a photocopy of others' lives. Though the premiere had some technical difficulties, it turns out to be just fine.

Meanwhile last night, i was at the Awarding ceremonies of Cinema One Originals at Teatrino, Promenade. I was just astaunded that Greenhills that it changed so fast. With all those new establishements and hang outs. Yun nga lang ganun pa rin ang parking, mahirap pa ring maghanap.

I was just star strucked seing famous and not so famous celebrities right in front of me. Bea Alonzo, Miko Palanca, Meryll Soriano, Jaquelyn Jose, Paolo Paraiso, Zanjoe Marudo and Piolo Pascual were just a few. Mylene Dizon, who was hailed Best Actress for the movie Rome and Juliet was may Favorite. She was so stunning that night. Pretty face, nice legs and a true blue fashionista.

The night was just awsome. But as the night end, napaisip lang ako. That there are things in life with i hated before that i begin to miss. Seeing some of my co-workers makes me wish that i'm still part of that event. I miss them so much. I just became so nostalgic because aminin ko man o hindi, i learned so much and there are many good memories being there.

The night ended as i was with Kats, Gerard and Rain and we had coffee at Starbucks Corinthian Hills near White PLains. Akalain mo nga naman at mayroong Starbucks, Rustan's at Santis doon and i only have 6 stickers to fill to get may Starbucks PLanner for 2007.

Guys just to let you know, nahold-up ako last thursday while i was about to go to office at sumakay ng jeep na may biyaheng UP-Patranco. That was around 5:45 in the afternoon sa University Avenue pagkalagpas lang ng check point palabas ng UP. 4 men immedietly flaunted their guns and weapons, announced the hold up and told the driver to slow down. They grabbed out wallets and cellphones, including my new nokia N70 phone na hindi ko pa tapos bayaran ang punyeta. Hay naku, naloka rin ako noh. You see, dati suki ako ng snatcher, ngayon higher level na to, may kasama pang baril na nakatutok sa ulo mo. Kung bakit naman kasi na ngayon na lang ako nagjeep after a long time, ngayon pa ako minalas. Kaya guys ingat sa pagsakay ng jeep na palabas ng UP. A friend told me na more often than not, minsan kasabwat yung driver, and i just dont like to think of it that way. Pero syempre hindi mo rin maiiwasan yun. Pano nasiraan yung jeep for about 1 min, giving time for the holduppers na makasakay sa jeep. Then another is, walang holdupper na mapalit sa driver and third his money box was not stolen. Hay, di bale makakarma rin sila. Nakakahinayang lang yung mga contacts sa simcard, pictures and memorable text msgs from someone special.

Typhoon Milenyo left a trail of destruction leaving hundreds of dead people lying on the streets, thousands of poeple homeless and millions including me who doesnt have electricity and water at home. According to the news, this was the strongest typhoon after 11 years. And i can say that it is. Remember typhoon Rosing?
If i remember it right, that happened during the wake of my dad at Loyola Guadalupe. When all of Metro Manila doesn't have electricty and we don't have anything to offer to our guest. Also because of the situation we have to extend our stay there and postpone my dad's burial.
I hate it! This was the first time in my entire life that from our unit, i have to go up and down to the basement with an empty bucket just to get water for me to at least have a decent bath.
Its been 3 days of living in the dark, feeling sticky and sleeping with mosquitos; i wouldn't ask myself if i'll have dengue on of these days.
So right now im stuck here in the office all by myself. Surfing the net and trying to entertain myself so that boredom will not make my short life even shorter. Hope someone will come here.

Right now, I spend my time all alone. I am wondering what it is like to be happy once more. Every smile and laughter you make matches a sigh. Your conversations are like words which are, to me, just remnants of a wonderful past we both shared.

For the first time in my professional career it is only now that i had this feeling of relief. A piece of mind that i havent felt for the last 7 months. I missed it so much. Now i could do the all things i have always wanted to accomplish a long time ago. Such as my writing my thesis, watching movies and hanging out with my campus friends.
Now i could dedicate my time and passion on stuffs that i really want and makes me happy.
It has been a month ago since ive predicted that this would happen. Maybe were all just waiting for this event to happen. I think that i have proven myself already.

I don't see it as a defeat but instead as a challenge for improvement.
You cant call it a failure coz i know to myself that i have succeded.
We cant say that i have lost the battle for i have gained lessons.

It is not yet over but i like to think of it as a start of something new.

I guess that is it. Two things have ended today. The first one ended with a slap in the face, the other with a heavy heart.
As I watched both of you, I realized that some things are not the same anymore. I have to accept that some things cannot just be undone. I have been deliberately trying to move on and hold on at the same time. I am just waiting for the time when I would just reach my limit shatter out of existence.
Things will get better, I promise.
Last Wednesday, I prayed long and hard and there you were. You were able to help me out in many things: in what I have been going through and in finding myself once more. You made me realize that bit by bit, I could regain myself and start to be happy once more.
There are times that I slide several notches back, but you were always there (i guess, sana naman).
In such a short time, I have found a good friend in you. Nobody knows where the future will bring us. You have become a part of my life in a way. Thank you for understanding that wounds do not heal that fast.
